Has anyone ever experienced a systemic (whole body) allergic response two weeks after surgery?

Question:
I am exactly two weeks post op from a total abdominal hysterectomy. No complications except for pain management immediately after (narcotics couldn't control pain so an epidural was used.) I started experiencing hives on various parts of my body (eyelids, lips, palms, incision area, backs of knees, armpits, spine) a few days post op. My doc discontinued all new meds and placed me on a six-day regimen of hydrocortisone -- I'm now on day four. Initially, the hives improved but are returning. I am terribly uncomfortable. I'm wondering if it could be the internal sutures or a long-standing reaction to anesthesia, narcotics, or the epidural. Has anyone ever addressed this before? (P.S.: My incision is healing well but very itchy and numerous hives around it. Steri-strips replaced staples 24 hours post op.) Thank you, thank you for any advice, knowledge you can share.

Answers:
Are they hives or actually welts the differene being that that hives look like smal bumps or sores and welts look like what they sound like huge swollen places? If they are indeed hives it could be most anything causing the reaction go an allery specialist if they don't go away. However if they are welts these can be caused by an infection somewhere in the body certain types like mono, strep, and a few others If the treatments aren't working insist that your Dr. either find the cause or send you to some else who can Good Luck
Are you allergic to latex?
