How do you answer a question like this??
Question:

It's perfectly fine to say "he's very ill." If people pry, you can say as much or as little as you feel like. It's ok to say, "it's difficult to talk about" or "I don't know." If the people who ask are nice people you can ask them to pray for your father-in-law or ask them to send good thoughts if prayer isn't something you're comfortable with. Most people want an opportunity to do something when people are dying, so asking for prayers/good thoughts gives them a focus for their feelings.
I wish you peace during this difficult time.
Just thank them for asking and being concerned and tell them the truth. They would rather know that then ask later on and feel bad for not knowing.
