sinus infection question?

Question:
I was diagnosed with a sinus infection, the doctor gave me the antibotic Septa, I just got off Flagyl due to a vaginal infection, how likely am I to get another vaginal infection? And if I have one, would this antibotic get rid of it? I am afraid to take this antibotic because I don't need another vaginal infection

Answers:
the antibiotic could possibly lead to another yeast infection (they kill off the 'good' bacteria that protect from a fungal yeast infection). Does your doctor know that you just got off Flagyl? he may considering continuing that for the duration of your antibiotic treatment or prescribe Diflucan to help prevent another yeast infection. If he does neither, consider taking over the counter Acidophilus (found in the vitamin aisle), this helps to replace the healthy bacteria that the antibiotic can wipe out.

Other Answers:
Please take your antibiotic! But ALSO eat a lot of yogurt with active cultures, or supplement with acidophilus which you can buy from your health food store. This will replace the "good" bacteria which may be killed by the antibiotic.

Flagyl is often used to treat bacterial vaginosis, which is a different type of bacterium than you get in your sinuses. So there is probably no relation.
