Has anyone ever experienced slowly getting over a dog allergy after getting a dog?

I am allergic to dogs, but my boyfriend is planning on getting one, and I will be around him a lot. I've heard one person say that they used to be allergic to dogs, and took allergy meds for awhile, but after they got one, they slowly got over any reactions to their own dog. Has this happened to anyone else?

I am allergic to dogs but I have had dogs all my life. As long as they are not in my bedroom I am OK with them. Cat's I am allergic to but have never been able to be in a room with them for long. I think the more you are around a dog or a cat the more your body fights off the allergy.

I get shots from an allergist every other week. After four years, I will not longer be allergic to cats. You might check with an allergist. You can also get claritin or some other OTC drug that will likely help you when you are around the dog.

I am allergic to cats. I have two of them. I got the first one as a kitten, I keep her bathed regularly. My allergies to her have dissapated quite abit. The second I got recently. And she doesn't seem to affect me as much either. I still have to be careful about not petting her and then rubbing my eyes, but I can pet them and then wash my hands and I'm alright.
