My daughter is on accutane, has been for 1month it seems to be getting worse, has anyone been through this?
Question:
Answers:
I have. It did get worse before it got better. Took about 8-10 weeks to really see improvement. But tell her to hold on--because when it does kick in, she will have beautiful skin. Just make sure she goes in regularly for her blood work to make sure her renal system is processing the Accutane. Very harsh medicine. But worth it!

Most acne medications that are taken orally make your skin worse for awhile, because it's bringing out all of the bacteria that was hiding under your skin all at once. After the initial period of your skin looking worse, it begins to look much, much better. This could be the case, or she could be allergic to the medication. Good luck!
My friend's daughter used Acutane, and her doctor told her it would make the acne worse at first, but then it would start to go away. It did. She has a flare-up once in a while, but mostly her skin is clear and beautiful now. Just give it more time.
Many who try this do get worse before they get better, however, I do have a question for you.
Doe's your daughter use anti-bacterial soap on her face?
It could be that she may not even need accutane as antibacterial soap also strips the skin of the good bacteria to balance out the bad.
If the answer is yes, quit using antibacterial soap on the face, discontinue the accutane and try a mild soap on the face such as pearls glycerin soap or maybe phisoderm if you've not previously tried that avenue.
it does get worse before it gets better and she should be seeing the dermatologist each month and she can ask then
Yes, this is normal. Don't have her stop taking it. Its really worth it in the long run.
Yes I've been on it for a month too, just starting to get better....sort of...in spots. It's like the areas I usually have pimples on my face have cleared up, but I have pimples on other spots of my face that usually don't have pimples....weird... This is the second time I've done accutane and it wasn't like this the first time, but I'm only on half the dose I was on the first time, so maybe that's it. Don't let her be discouraged or stop before the full treatment, or she'll have to do it all over again like me.
