is buccal mucosa cancer hereditary in any way or is alcohol and smoking main cause?

Question:
step dad may have this kind of cancer and his dad died a few years ago with basically the same thing want to know if it is hereditary? he went through most of his tounge removed and other surgery and treatments, just cant seem to find answer.

Answers:
It's most likely caused by alcohol abuse or smoking. There needs to be a larger family history before calling it hereditary. Usually hereditary cancers are not limited to one specific type of cancer, it can happen in other sites as well. This is most likely due to a weak link in the genetic disposition of the family genes.

Other Answers:
Wow I didn't even know this type of cancer existed. Is it cancer of the tongue.
