Does Penicillin VK make your urine smell like medication?

I'm taking 500 mg. 4 times a day for strep throat. I've taken a total of 5 doses and my urine has a strong medicinal smell. What does that mean?

Yes it does. Penicillins are eliminately primarily through kidney excretion into the urine. Your urine will smell just like the pills. a wonderful bitter moldy smell. It shouldn't mean anything at all.

How did your urine smell before? It should smell like a rose. Yup. In the old days when penicillin was really hard to manufacture and really expensive, they would collect the urine of patients who were taking penicillin and recycle the penicillin (after purifying it of course).

The kidneys are very effective at filtering out the penicillin from the blood stream. That's one reason why you have to take it so often.
