how long antibodies of chikungunya virus remain in the blood of affected person after full recovery.?
Question:
Answers:
I am not that familiar with this particular virus but whenever you have a viral infection your body makes antibodies to fight the infection. First your body makes IgM antibodies which are usually very effective at destroying the virus, and then you make IgG antibodies which also help to destroy the virus but also have a long term protection against that particular virus so you will never get infected with that particular organism again. After a while the IgM titer goes down. The IgG titer will also go down some, but some remains in your body for the rest of your life (except in cases where you have an immunosuppressive disorder). The presence of IgG is what hospital tests detect when performing diagnostic antibody tests to see if you are immune. The presence if IgM antibody is what we in the lab look for to determine current infection.
