what exactly causes trisomy and can it be prevented? is the mother the cause of the baby having the illness?

Question:
my baby cousin had this disease and she only lived for about an hour. she had some of major symptoms like major and minor organs being on the outside of the body. could the mother have done anything to prevent her daughter from having this disease.

Answers:
Mother should have folic acid (take vitamin pills or eat green vegetables, green fruits) She shouldn't use cigarette and alcohol.
What symptom do doctors suspect? So you can search the symptom. And mother and Dad must have the genetic test and karyotype test. it may be a chromosomal disease.if it is trisomy like you said, mother age can be the problem. When the age is older, trisomy become more common..i hope it works..

Other Answers:
Trisomy diseases are caused by genetics, so there really isn't a way to prevent it. If your cousin is tested, they can determine is she carries any genes that could pass on conditions/diseases including some of the Trisomy diseases. But unfortuntely some of the Trisomy diseases just happen. My son had a Single Umbilical Artery in his umbilical cord and one of the potential problems could have been a Trisomy disorder...simply from the cord problem. There are SEVERAL Trisomy disorders.
It's a genetic mutation, and really can't be prevented. Nothing either parent can do can change it.
No, the mother could have done nothing to prevent this disease because it is a genetic disorder. The genetic disease trisomy could either occur (usually) in the eggs or sperm, or could even develop during early fetal development. Most babies do not even live to birth. Trisomy 21 is Downs syndrome, and usually occurs in older mothers. (Trisomy means three copies of a particular chromosome (like chromosome 21) when you are only should have 2 copies total)
