what does narrowing of the gullet linked with asthma in infants mean?

Question:
my 17month old daughter has had asthma since she was 6 months old recently she had a barium swallow done which showed narrowing of her gullet

Answers:
the narrowing of the gullet causes reflux. the reflux causes asthma like symptoms, acutally called reactive airway.. the same thing just that if the reflux is treated the asthma will go too. this is something that almost all babies grow out of. My son is 9 months old with the narrowing of the gullet, and had reactive airway, and many hospitalizations with breathing problems. once we got the reflux under control, the little guy hasnt' had to take anymore breathing medications, we have been off the neb macihine since feb and off singular since march and he is doing wonderful.. he does take 15 mg of prevacid a day, and is on ellecare formula.. however he is able to eat any babyfood he wants.. good luck

Other Answers:
Did they say that she has reflux? Many children with narrowing of the gullet will reflux and then aspirate (what's brought back up is then sucked into the lungs) causing asmatic effects.
