I am 16 and i am a diabetic and i have always wanted to get my naval pierced but is it to risky to get done?
Question:
Answers:
As a Type 1 diabetic, I heal remarkably fast. I've had my belly button pierced twice (it's been about 8 years now), and have 23 piercings over all (and 11 tattoos). Every person is different. Consult your doctor for an unbiased opinion (I know... that's an oxymoron) but some Drs. will give you informtation based on their personal beliefs, rather than base the info on facts.
Good luck!
Other Answers:
Yeah..you know the risks.Just stick with your ears if you already have them done. That area is kinda hard to heal rubbing against your jeans and all.I wouldn't risk it.
try a temporary tatoo instead of piercing.. infections and wounds take longer to heal for diabetics.. nose and ear piercings look sexy and gentle..
You could ask your doctor for his opinion on the matter.
make sure that the instruments he uses are disinfected first!!!
jst ask ur doc well it might b risky it actually depend on ur level of diabeties
Consider asking your Dr. to do the piercing, in a sterile environment, might cost you a little more, but sometimes a better option than having it done at a retail place, this was offered to a friend of mine by her Dr.
First you need to check with your doctor my son wanted his ear pierced and after a discussion with the doctor and antibiotics we did it. Yes diabetics are more prone to infection and viruses because you have a compromised immune system that is why hand washing is vital in your case. You do not have to have complications to have problems.
Yes you can. Don't let diabetes control your life. As a diabetic you have to take added precautions, but there's no reason not to do anything because you're a diabetic. As has been mentioned, you can go to your doctor and get a prescription for antibiotics if you feel your piercing will cause you an infection. Better to be prepared than take your chances. Still, to be safe, you should have as close to normal BG readings as possible before getting the naval attachment. Again, it's the preparation. Enjoy living and manage your diabetes rather than have it manage you and your life.
Yes but be careful. I have my belly pierced for 7 years and I'm Type 1 Daibetic. If you get infection, used antibiotic ointment until the redness is gone.
I always say play it safe, if it isn't necessary I wouldn't do it.
If you are set on having it done I think you should ask your Dr his/her thoughts, if your prone to infection, poor blood sugar then I would stay clear of it. If your Dr advices against it due to poor control then I would definitely steer clear but, that would give you another reason to get your diabetes under control.
I've worked with lots of kids with nasty infected belly buttons in my time. Not one of these has been in a diabetic, just "normal" kids that let their jeans rub them or didn't keep them clean.
Work with your Doc, keep a close eye on your sugar levels, Think about having your MD do the deed. After the piercing, keep it clean, don't let your jeans rub it and keep an eagle eye out for any signs of infection. Not just for two weeks or so but it could take as long as six months for your belly to heal properly. If you are a "good diabetic" your chances of having an infection are probably lower than a"normal" 16 year old. Simply because you know it is important to take care of your body.
