This sounds like your wife has diverticulitis. If you haven't gone to an Emergency Room then I would suggest it. They will order a Cat-Scan of the abdomen. If you have gone to an ER and they said its nothing, then try a different one. To tell you its nothing, is not acceptable because something has to be the cause of her symptoms. An ER should order tests for other possible causes like kidney stones, urinary tract infection. Straining while evacuating stool if she is constipated will cause blood in the stool or she may have irritable bowel syndrome and the blood in the stool may be hemorrhoids. But If I were treating your wife I would certainly suspect diverticulitis.
It seems like your wife's pain could be due to appendicitis. Hurry and see a doctor before its too late.
