Everytime I get into a pool I get a really awful headache. Could I be allergic to the chlorine?

Question:

Answers:
I've talked to a Dr about this because I once had problems after swimming. The chlorine is not really an allergen but is an irritant instead. It is harsh on the mucus membranes - your nose and eyes. When swimming, protect your eyes with goggles, and always breath out through your nose and mouth when under water to prevent water from going in. Also, some pools have way too much chlorine - especially pools that are very popular. Another contributing factor to the headache could be heat or sun. The combination of all three is very irritating.

Get your Blood pressure checked.
That's one possibility. Could also be the rapid temperature change, going from warm air to cold water. Does it happen in heated pools?

You could indeed be allergic to the chlorine. Or there could be too much chlorine in the water. Or, yes, the rapid temperature changes could cause the headaches.
