What are the side effects in using steroids for psoriasis?

Question:
Hi
I am having psoriasis for the past six years...I have been on homeopathy till now...but since i am going to join a job now i wanted to get immediate relief...so my doctor prescribed omnacortil(prednisolone tablets) with 5 mg...but all over the net it is said the steroids produce side effects...can anybody give me some idea....

Answers:
Ideally applying steroid cream would benefit u more than eating 5 mg of omnacortil. Its too mild to show any action.
Oral steroids when taken in high doses for very long periods can cause side effects ( omnacortil 5 mg is very low dose steroid). Side effects seen are weight gain, increased BP, Increase in blood sugar levels, More chances of infections, Acidity and stomach ulcers, weakening of bones.... just to name a few.
Creams of steroid if used for long periods can cause thinning and whitening of the skin, increased chances of infections locally.

Please meet a dermatologist for your psoriasis

Other Answers:
The side effect to topical steroids is they thin the skin down. With tablets, the side effects are mainly with fluid retention and other such things. This is a small dose and the other side effects wil not be noticeable.
doesn't steroids shorten ur life to live only 5 more years?
The tablets taste bitter, so swallow them fast. And don't take them right before bed b/c they can keep you awake.
