Ruptured sebaceous cyst; is it a really big problem?

Question:
I've had a sebaceous cyst on the top of my head for the past few months. It has recently grown red and really stretched the skin out.

A couple nights ago, I accidentally bump the bump and feel some seriously searing pain. Now, the bump has started to decrease in size, but now the surrounding areas have started to swell.

I had scheduled a meeting with a plastic surgeon to remove the cyst, as well as any others around my scalp. Now, I'm worried that I may have to bump this up because I don't know how serious this is. My right gut is screaming that I need to see the surgeon yesterday, but I don't want to force this forwards unless I really have to.

Any advice?

Answers:
Actually, if I were in your situation, I would call my primary care physician and talk to him/her or a nurse, to see what they suggest.
It sounds to me like your cyst became infected, and that is why it swelled up and burst. If it it very red and hot to the touch, painful and possibly seeping pus or green stuff (or something that smells foul,) then it is infected, and should be kept clean and dry and covered with gauze or something.
Possibly your doctor would order an antibiotic or triple antibiotic ointment or something. Definitely call him/her immediately.

Other Answers:
it's a zit
its not a big problem but do take an appointment with surgeon
