Is it posible that I didn't get herpes from my girlfriend?

Question:
My girlfriend & I have been together for 6 months now & neither of us has been with anyone else since we got together. All of a sudden she has genital herpes. We have unprotected sex. I am going to get tested as soon as possible, but is it possible that I don't have it? Could I have given it to her & it took this long to show?

Answers:
Absolutely. Some people with genital herpes will never get an outbreak or show any signs of the virus, this is rare but it can happen. It's also possible that she had it before and it's just now showing up for her. And, it's possible that you never got it from her.

I have had genital herpes for over 5 years. I was with my ex for about 4 years. In all those 4 years he never got the virus from me and we always had unprotected sex. He's been tested and has always came back with a negative result. I have even read of couples being together 10 or more years, one has the virus the other doesn't.

Now that you know she has it, it's definitely a good idea to use condoms! This is the best way to prevent getting genital herpes (other than abstinence of course).

Good luck to you!

Other Answers:
Absolutely and the same goes for her. These viruses may lie dormant for years before they become active.
she could've gotten it from another partner or you could've as well. sometimes it doesn't develop for awhile. you should get tested and treated while your there
