how does the concentration of a chemotherapy agent in a cancer patient's blood fall?
Question:
2. Reabsorption
3. Secretion
Answers:
Good morning! All chemicals that enter the body are filtered through the liver or kidney's then excreted in to the bowel or bladder for elimination. The reason you should drinks plenty of fluids while you get chemo is this dilutes the breakdown of cells and keeps the kidneys from plugging up (called tumor lysis syndrome). It's kind of like running a garbage disposal- if you don't run water it stops up. The other reason for increasing fluids is to prevent dehydration. Water tends to nauseate people on chemo and dehydration increases nausea. So we encourage drinking ginger -ale, lemonade, gatorade, etc. Your answer is secretion. If there are small children in the house where chemo is being given the toilet should be flushed twice after use and gloves used to handle any excrement! Hope this helps!
Chemotherapys main job is to get into your body, do it's job as fast as it can and GET OUT of your body as fast as it can.It is filtered thru your liver and goes to all your blood vessels and little capilaries where the tumor is and hopefully start the killing process of the cancer cells. In the meantime the rest of the chemo is just circulating around eating good red blood cells and white cells. That is why your docs and nurses say drink plenty of fluid, at least 2 quarts per day for 2 or 3 days after as the chemotherapy is mostly excreted thru your kidneys, so they want you to "pee" it all out.!
