My mom Has heart disease, Can anyone help??
Question:
What kind of test is it?
Will it hurt her? Iam worried for her.
Answers:
It be Paroxysmal Atrial Disorder (Dysrythmia/ Disease), or it could be Peripheral Arterial Disease.
If its the atrial disorder (a heart disease), then 24 hour Holter monitoring is done in which a ECG/EKG tracing is obtained continuously for 24 hours. The gadget is secured over the chest and the patient is allowed to go back home and continue with all the daily activities. It is done to know the type of arrhythmia, the duration, mode of onset, etc. Echocardiography and blood tests including cholesterol and sugar levels will also be done. If need be, treadmill test, adenosine test and thallium test may also be done.
If the PAD is related to arterial disease, then Doppler studies and Ultrasonography will have to be done, and in addition to the cholesterol and sugar tests, echocardiography of the heart will have to be done to exclude a thrombotic valve. Based on the clinical findings, additional tests may or may not be required.
Nope, sorry.
House calls are hard over the internet.
Are you sure that the test is called PAD and that "PAD" isnt written under the reason for which the test is being done?
I'm sorry but i cannot think of a test called PAD. It could however be "peripheral vascular disease" which since you mentioned pain in her lower limbs and heart disease, is a very possible diagnosis.
Saying "heart disease" is like saying "cancer", you are not specifiying the type and that can drastically effect the prognosis and symptoms.
If it is indeed peripheral vascular disease, this is what is also called atherosclerosis or "hardening of the arteries". Its what people refer to as "poor circulation" too. The severity of PAD depends on the time of detection and pre-existing health factors especially smoking, high cholesterol or diabetes.
As regarding the possible test she is going to do, there are several and i cannot really pick one out without more information. Since she has a painful leg it could be a doppler ultrasound of the leg but this is simply a guess. In that case it wouldnt hurt at all.
If you post more accurate information i'll gladly edit my answer and help you better. Good Luck and take care. Try not to panic too much, it is better to keep a cool head and be able to pay attention to what the doctor is telling you.
I suspect that her doctor is testing for PAD, or Peripheral Arterial Disease. It's a hardening or narrowing of the arteries that supply oxygen-rich blood to the legs. The tests to diagnose it are not painful or invasive.
This site explains how a doctor might test for it:

A pad test can demonstrate the frequency and severity of incontinence that occurs in your daily life.
You will be provided with an absorbent pad that has been weighed. The pad is worn until urine leakage occurs, and then you return the soiled pad to be reweighed. The amount of urine released is estimated by measuring the increased weight of the pad.
Dear don't worry it will not hurt her continue to send her to the hosiptal for the doctor to confirm itself.
