Why Multiple Scelerosis?

Question:
I was diagnosed with MS in May 2006, and a waiting treatment, it really has not sunk in yet but i know it will hit me soon, i am very fortunate to have a family that supports me, but does it affect your personal life? i'm really trying to understand why me?

Answers:
I have a disease that causes MS symptoms called APS. It took me awhile to figure out the new me. Once I figured it out. Things got better.

I do suggest that you get a counselor...not becuase you are nuts...because this is a huge thing to learn to cope and deal with. MS is a chronic, life-threatening illness and it always helps to have someone impartial to speak to.

I found that many of my friends bailed because they couldn't see that I was sick. That I looked fine on the outside yet I would be in such horrible pain that I just wanted to go home. My real friends have stuck around through it. You will figure out who is who.

Learn as much as you can about MS. The more you know about YOUR illness, the better you'll understand what signs to look for and what to tell doctors/nurses if ever needed. Try to find websites that site their information and are medically sound. Doctors are more willing to accept information that has its sources cited, even better if they are medical journals. There are also some well written books on MS out there.

Be prepared for your doctor's appointments. Write your questions down and get answers to all of those questions.

Journal your symptoms. Not because you want focus on your disease...it just may help point out a better treatment for you.

Join a support group. There are people out there who are going through the same thing that you are. It will help to share experiences with people who understand.

Good Luck!!

Why you? Why NOT you! Just like everyone else, you are a mortal being and subject to the same maladies. You were not singled out, believe me. Things like this happen sometimes and generally speaking EVERYONE eventually gets some malady with which they have to deal. Of course MS will affect your personal life (as would any malady), but there are support groups, meds that treat symptoms (no cure, of course) and many people have lived productive lives for years while suffering from MS. Often it flares and then subsides. Get professional medical care and counseling if need be. Good luck. And trust me, no one gets out of this world without some malady or major disappointment in life. No one!
I have been diagnosed with MS in 2004. At first it was the most difficult time in my life. I am a divorced mom raising two teenage boys whom I got so depressed cause it is my job to raise my kids, not my kids helping me. It depends on what kind of MS you have. If you have remitting/relasping MS then you should be able to go on with your daily life. If you have progressive MS, then it could affect your daily life with something so simple like walking. To this day, I still ask that question why me? it doesn't seem fair does it? If you need to talk to someone please email me, I would be more than happy to help you in any way I can. Take care of yourself.
my grandma was diagnosed with in janurary. i did a lot of research on it for a biology project last school year. i have not heard of MS effecting you personal life. MS can happen to anyone. scientist do not know what causes it so know one will truelly know what it is happening to you, just be greatful for the things that you have. i am so sorry that you were diagnosed with MS and i wish you luck.
