Steroid shots for allergies?

Question:
I would like some feedback from everyone who has taken steroids for their allergies. What dosage, brand name, how long it lasted and for what types of allergies. I am basically allergic to life I found out from my allergist. Most are controllable, but during spring and fall (whoever invented pollen should be shot..haha) are the worst for me. I tried a shot of Depramedrol 120 mg for the first time this past spring and it worked great for 3 weeks, which wasn't quite long enough for my liking. I have talked to some others who say the shots they get last all season, so I would like to take as much info to my doctor (not my allergist, he doesn't believe in steroids.no lie, its much cheaper!) about what to try. Any help is very much appreciated!! Also.my sister has been on the immunotherapy for 3 years, hasn't helped her at all, so not an option. (and its expensive.i.e. my comment about my allergist)

Answers:
i have had the steroid shot i don't know what exactly it was but it sounded like kellog it was something really similar. i got relief in like 5 min it was great the rash stayed for a week but the itching was gone. i was told it would last for 7-14 days i was also put one the steroid pills for 12 days and have been allergy free for over a month now. i had and unknown allergy for 5 months before i went in about it.
my mom also gets the shots she went though years of getting them but no longer needs them. they are really ruff on your body thought i looked up the side effects and they can be bad so you might want to compare the side effects of all the different ones and see what you think you can live with best before you go and ask for one. everyone reacts differently so you really need to look up the side effects first

Other Answers:
steroids arent safe to use for extended periods of time, you could try getting desensitization shots

Try an inhaled steroid like Flonase or Nasonex. Steroid shots like you describe have serious drawbacks if used to regularly treat allergies, especially in young people (weight gain and poor bone quality) If your sister hasn't gotten better after 3 years of immunotherapy, she needs to see a different allergist because the current one is not doing something correctly. Also, there is no quick fix like a steroid shot for allergies, at least without serious consequences so keep looking for better solutions to treating your allergies. good luck
