I don't know about the 3rd leading cause, but yeah I agree that the lack of adequate medical care is a big problem.

Like everything else in life - it depends. Hospitals are required to treat you for life threatening conditions - like gunshot wounds, etc. whether you have insurance or not. Chronic conditions are treated as they threaten your life - like heart disease or renal failure from diabetes. But a lot of the chronic killer diseases could have been prevented with better diet and exercise, not smoking, stop drinking and drugging, or getting interim care (like insulin) on your own nickel. So maybe bad lifestyle plus no insurance would be a better way to characterize it.

Insurance is just like gas its all a big rip-off, the people know you need it and they stick it to ya.

I actually think it's number one now. A lot of people my hubby and I included don't have health insurance it's not offered at his job and he doesn't make enough for us to get it so we just don't go to the doctor. I think that it's a shame that our country health care can't be free like it is in Canada.
