Worried About Kidney Stones?

Question:
I've read about kidney stones because my math teacher said he had them and that's why he was gone for two weeks, and I hear peeing them out is worse than childbirth. I drink 2 Liters of water daily, but I also eat a lot of foods people say cause them. I eat beets 2-3 times a week, I eat an entire chunk of 100g chocolate a day, and I have 2-3 caffeinated drinks a day. I do not drink sodas. I am a 17 yr old female, and I do not know if they run in the family. (Although my grandfather had diabetes.) I've never had one, but I'm worried b/c of the discomfort factor. How can I prevent them, and should I really be worrying this much?

Answers:
When i saw my urologist he told me that a kidney stone is so painful, it will make a man drop to his knees in tears. Then he told me what causes them is having too much protein, and calcium. Then he said what also kills them off before they can form is having 2 glasses of orange juice per day. He said even if a person is having them, if they have the orange twice a day. Then new ones won't have the ability to form.
They're genetics, some people get 'em and some don't.
