Low WBC for 2 Years Feeling Healthy, but..?
Question:
I am a 28 year old Latin female (South American decent, mix of German and Swiss). My WBC count was low 2 years ago (I don't remember the count). I didn't have my blood count tested again until last month. The new doctor said my WBC is very low (1.5). I tested negative for HIV last year..My platelets appear to be in an acceptable range, it's my white blood cells that are all out of range. Details below:
Neutrophils = 650L
Lymphocytes = 707L
Monocytes = 114L
Eostinophils = 53
Basophils = 9
Total WBC = 1.5
I feel healthy overall. When I get sick, I recover quickly. My internet searches turn up a lot of bad news so I thought I would ask the group before I go to see the hematologist..
Thank you.
Answers:
I would contact a hematologist so that you can have thorough exam.but I also want you to understand that there are normal high and low results.there are some people who don't conform to the norma.a normal WBC is 4.0 to 10.5..I would like that second opinion with a hematologist and ease my fears..As a nurse I would not speculate what it may be..and as I said it may be normal for you..I have cared for patients who has a normal temperature of 96 and if they have a fever it is 98.6 so see we are not all the same.good luck and I hope you get good news.

I wont give you good news..i would recommend Bone marrow biposy.have they done that?
Ofcourse you should go to an hematologist..Good luck and let me know..pls You need to see a specialist, Your WBC count is way to low to be nothing, I would call your medical doctor and have them set up an appointment with a specialist. Other test need to be done.
GOOD LUCK!!
Leukopania means a decrease in the number of circulating white blood cells. Among its causes are chemical piosoning (agranulocytosis), sometimes from drugs; chronic tuberculosis; pernicious anemia; measles; and a variety of other infectious diseases. However underlying cause should be found out. If it is drug induced, stop that drug.
