Supplementing the dilaudid with ibuprofen and tylenol won't hurt and since they all attack pain via different mechanisms, they may work synergistically to help lower the pain you are experiencing. You may ask your doctor for viscous lidocaine to put on topically, but I found that good ol' Noxzema in the blue tub works as well or better than the viscous lidocaine, and tends to stay on the outbreak spots better. And I sure hope that you are taking at least a gram of Valtrex orally every day. If not, your doctor needs to be reported to the licensing board.
And I second the previous suggestions of trying as best you can to get to a better place mentally, and lower the stress (difficult to do with the current situation), and take good supplemental vitamins. Get yourself as healthy as possible to help get over this more rapidly and prevent future outbreaks.
It *is* a heinous disease, isn't it?
I'm Sorry to hear that, but there is nothing you can do about it but wait it out. I know how painful it is and mine lated 9 months. that was 2 years ago and I still itch in the same areas, weather permitting. I found advil extra srtength gel caps worked best for me, Good Luck
