Asthma would not be affected by high altitude. Triggers of asthma are inhalants and things a person is allergic to. These trigger an auto immune response in the body (IE the lungs) and increase mucus productions and secretions in the body. What would be ideal is to live at high altitude for a while to build up your RBC (Red Blood Cells) this would increase your oxygen caring ability. Then each breath would produce a bigger supply of o2 for the bodies need. Also cold air can open the lungs up. Clean air is the most important thing to have. I doubt big cities are helpful lower or high elevation.

There is some debate about wether or not high altitude helps or hurts asthma patients. Because we have a fairly dry climate here in Colorado Springs, we do not suffer as many of the allergens as other places do. If cold air does not trigger an attack for you, you should do well. Talk to your doctor - they will probably tell you the best advice is to make sure you have your medication on you at all times. As for acclimating to the altitude (5500 to 7000 ft, depending on what part of town you're in), in a couple of weeks or so you should be pretty used to it.
