LIPOMA is dangerous?
Question:
Answers:
It depends where the lipoma is located. Actually 'doctor' is right and a lipoma is harmless. But if it's on a difficult place and presses on something (nerve or spinal canal or organ) then it should be removed. The thing is, a lipoma is very strong and adheres very much on the tissue, so it has to be removed carefully. And it has to be removed exactly because cells that are left can be grow and so on.
Other Answers:
its a growth under the skin, benign. Mostly it is just ugly and sometimes uncomfortable depending on its location. Doc can suck it out in minutes.
Hello!
Lipoma is not dangerous, not at all. It is a completely benign entity, no cause for worries!
....as long as it really is a lipoma - but your doctor should be sure about that.
A lipoma is a proliferation of normal adipose (ie. fatty) tissue that can appear in any organ, eg. in your skin. It won't leave any metastases elsewhere, it is just a regional thing.
The symptom of a lipoma of the skin (subcutaneous fat tissue) is only that you feel a lump, may be you can even see a small "hill". It can grow slowly, but it should never hurt.
The treatment is surgical excision, an easy procedure as long as the lipoma is small. It depends on location and size (and surgeon) whether it can be excised using local or general anesthesia.
I hope I could help... feel free to ask more about lipoma or other skin tumors!
Yours,
doctor
