Do you walk for diabetes research for children?

Yep! My mom is an volunteer organizer with JDRF. She, and some other parents were instrumental in bringing the JDRF walk to cure back to my local area. We walk in late august this year, under the banner of "Team Ped-a-cure" (my sister came up with the name...). We ask our friends and family to pledge in a letter we send out, either on the internet (www.jdrf.org) or by mailing a check. My friend's family (both my friend and her sister are diabetic) are going to joing our team this year, and maybe some more friends will walk with us. Its gonna be pretty cool. This local car dealer is gonna get all sorts of local car clubs to come out for a show, and walk for a diabetic kid in the area. Last year, our chapter exceeded our goal by about two fold. Hopefully, the same thing will happen this year.
We also have a really special event in my area. I live near a ski resort, and this ski shop near my house sells snowshoes as well. They have an annual event where they raise money for a cause, bring in a truckload of snowshoes, and offer food, music, and family fun. My mom is one of the co-chairs of that event, and a whole bunch of people come out to eat food (donated), listen to music (donated by local artists), snowshoe (on demo snowshoes) and enter to win fabulous raffle prizes. The Starlight Snowshoe doesn't raise nearly as much money as the walk, but it helps keep some attention on diabetes reaserach more often. I almost like this more than the walk, since I happen to like winter sports more, and it gives me an excuse to go out in the cold and snow shoe...
On a final note, I would encourage people to do JDRF walks more than ADA, although I guess that depends on people's goals. JDRF (juvenile diabetes reasearch foundation) spends about 80+% of their money on reasearch to cure, prevent, and reverse the complication of diabetes. The ADA (American Diabetes Association) sends about 30% (i think) of their money to reasearch. The rest is put into education and other stuff...

I walk and donate, I have been a type 1 diabetic for 8 years, my whole family gets involved. Its pretty awesome. Thanks for being apart of diabetes with walking and donating.
As a diabetic I have walked in one diabetes research walk and have donated money many of times.
no. do you donate to Cancer research?
I have been a volunteer for the JDF walk for a cure since 1996, we walk at a zoo and have a blast not to mention everything is related to diabetes. You can call your local JDF to help and if they help the kids with the research it helps the adults too, win win.
