I Have A Question About The Skin On My Hands.?

Okay, the skin on my hands is really weird. On my knuckles, the skin is darker. This may sound gross, but when I was a kid, I never put lotion on my hands, and I used to get really dry skin, and it would crack and bleed. Now, the skin on my knuckles is all dead, and it turned a darker, red-ish color. It looks almost like a bruise. I would like to know, how I can get this off. I have already tried soaking my hands in water, and rubbing it off roughly with a towel, but this never seems to work. I have been putting lotion on regularly for the past 4 or 5 years now, and that doesn't seem to be working. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions about this. Thanks for reading!

and cough please.?

Answers:
the worst thing you can do for your hands is soaking them in hot water! this actually dehydrates your hands. Your best bet is an ointment or straight up Vaseline. a lot of the lotions out there (including Vaseline intensive care) say they are moisturizing, but in the long run they just dry out your hands more. You need an oil or petroleum based lotion so it will stay on longer and force moisture into your hands. Eucerin has been great for me; put it on as often as you can and that should help significantly. Vaseline is your best bet though, if you can stand it. also, if you can afford it, go see a dermatologist; they have tons of products to help out dry skin!

Do you get what she is trying to tell you?

I'm not sure what to tell you to do, but I can tell you that soaking it in water is only going to dry it out further (sounds weird, but it's true).

Does anybody else have Friedreich's Ataxia? and if so, have you found anything or anyone that can help?

Consult a dermatologist.
