I had very stong chemo that ended six months ago. I fall, slur my speech, is this normal?

Question:
I had non hodgkins lymphoma. I was at stage three. I had four different types of the disease, lumps everywhere. They used 5 different types of chemo, so strong that they told me each time could kill me, I had only six treatments, every three weeks. Now, six months later, I can't focus, I fall down, I slur my speech, and my memory is shot. I just turned 48 and they say I'm cured. How can I be cured with all these things going on. No one believes me, they think I've been drinking or taking medication.

Answers:
I recommend seeking an independent medical evaluation from a neurologist and possibly a neurotologist (an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist with additional training in neurological aspects of those areas). Some chemotherapy agents are known to be ototoxic, meaning that they are damaging to the ear organs for hearing and balance; however, your other symptoms of speech difficulty (apraxia) and loss of concentration and memory suggest a strong neurological component.

I wish you the best of luck in obtaining an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. Take care.

This is your dr that says you're cured? How many dr's have you been to? Need to get some accurate medical advice
You need to get a list of ecery type of medication that was given to you THEN you need to make an appointment to see a neurologist for a full work up. There are two likely scenarios here - 1) You were given a neurotoxic chemo agent that has damaged the pathways along your nerves. 2) (And the more likely scenario) is that you may have had a series of "mini-strokes" called TIA (transient ischemic attack) that can be so subtle at the time that no one notices unil the effects build up. Regardless of which scenario it is, YOU MUST SEE ANOTHER DOCTOR. If your current physician is dismissing your symptoms, then you need to find a new physician. I highly recommend you seek the counsel of a trained NEUROLOGIST.

scroll down and read "Harry - Sept 1997"
These don't sound like normal "after-effects" of chemotherapy. I would make an appointment to see a DIFFERENT doctor right away.
