Could it be a staph infection?

Question:
I had a rectal abscess lanced and packed yesterday, but was not told what kind of infection it is.
I am on Percoset for pain, and 2 different antibiotics (Flagyl and Levaquin)My Dr. is off today.
I am worried--I have children.
If there is anyone in the medical field out there, please shed some light on this for me.Thank you.

Answers:
It probably is a staph infection or may be some other off the wall organism such as e coli since is a rectal abscess. The doctor did a great thing by prescribing 2 seperate antibiotics. He is treating you with an antibiotic for anerobes and 1 broad spectrum antibiotic which my the way would cover you if you have e coli or staph.
The reason they did not tell you what kind of infection you have is because it takes more than a day to grow a culture. Sometimes it takes a couple or 3 days.
People get rectal abscess all of the time. just take your sitz bath or a tub bath and keep the area clean and return to the doctor as directed. You will be fine.
RN x 12 yrs. plus I have taken care of many rectal abscesses.
Yes, it could be a staph infection, but if you have antibiotics, you should be fine. Just be sure to take ALL of them, and follow the directions.
