Saying goodbye to a dying friend. How to go about it?

Question:
Hey guys,

To make a long story short, my friend (who I have gotten really close to over the past year to year and a half) is dying of liver cancer. Living in California, he was given about three weeks last week. He came to say goodbye to my family and I, but however, as a real estate agent, I missed him and was not able to say goodbye. He was leaving for Texas, where most of his family lives, and left today, without seeing me for the last time. I am devastated and I've told him over and over how much I love him and pray everyday that it will not be his last day here. As a hardcore Texan, he probably wants to die with his family around him in dignity. However, I can't get over that I could not be able to see him one last time and tell him how much he means to me in person and that I care for him. Should I call him to tell him my feeling and that I will miss him when his time comes? Thanks guys and god bless.

Answers:
Absolutely call him and have a nice long chat, tell him how sorry you were to miss him and how much you'd like to spend more time with him. Ask him if he has anything he wants to talk about, and really listen to him. Make the call comfortable for him, save your grieving till later, but do let him know how much you value him and his friendship. Find out if he's online at all and get his email address. The worst thing to say is nothing at all.

blessings,
cryllie
This is not easy, of course... I think honesty is the best way. Call him and tell him how you feel. Tell him you will miss him and often think of him and cherish the moments you have had together. He knows it's the end, don't tip toe around it. You might both cry, but you will have that weight off your chest once you speak to him frankly. If you don't, you might always have regrets.
