Hihow long does it take to get pathology results back on a brain tumor?
Question:
Answers:
It depends on what it is.
If it is straight forward, such as metastatic carcinoma, benign, reactive process, infection, hemorrhage or infarction, it should be a couple of days.
However, in a more complicated case that requires special stains or ancillary study, then it could be a little longer (such as lymphoma or poorly differentiated malignant neoplasm).
If the lesion is unusual, the lab or pathology department may have to send to another lab or a place where there is an expert in the field. This will make it even longer to get the results back. Now they can send the slides via overnight mail. But there are more steps involved which increase the turnaround time.
You can call your doctor who can call the Pathologist for at least a preliminary finding or tentative diagnosis.
Best of luck.
I think a couple of days but allways feel free to call your doctor after all that is what he is there for.
