I need to get my 40 yr. daughter into TM or MS research. How do I do that? We live in upstate N.Y. Need help .

Question:
My daughter was taken to Univ. Hospital, Syracuse,N.Y. last Oct. and was tested and told she had TM, since then diagnosis is MS. She is dealing with student doctors, and always ends up with new people. She needs the attention of experienced MS doctors. She has extreme burning in her legs, impaired vision, heavy numb feeling (or lack of feeling) from rib cage to toes. No bladder or colon control. She is willing to be part of a research project. I need to get her help now. Do we have to have physician referral?

Answers:
Hi I have looked everywhere and this is all I could find so far. Let me know if you have been here before. A doctors referral does expedite things and I would recomend it, but you can check into this on your own too. Contact this site for information that you seek. I am sure this must be hard on you, moms tend to worry I have some experience with that,
I hope this helped, Take Care ~A~
It is not that easy. There are many on-going experimental projects but each have very specific requirements for being in them, and they are not the place to go for regular treatment and a treatment plan. Do you not have insurance? Are the docs where she is at telling you she has no hope, or what? I really empathise with you. I am falling apart myself, and at times it has been really hard working with some of my doctors. Talk to them though, tell them your concerns. Student docs all are supervised by an attending doc. talk to him/her. Dont go off on your own until you exhaust every other possibility.
