I have heard that people who have diabetes can't use foot spa's. Is there any reason for this?
Question:
Answers:
the reason for this is because with diabetes, people tend to develop what is called neuropathy - this is damage to the nerves that makes it hard to feel if you are doing damage to your feet from the spa being too hot . once the damage is done, diabetics do not heal as easily and even a small sore or damage to tissue in any way, can lead to infection and amputation
Other Answers:
diabetics have problems with healing. The feet are one of those areas on the body that the slightest little nic or cut could have a castrophic outcome for a diabetic. Diabetics have to be extra careful with their hygenic care of their feet due to the illness they have.
Any cut or sore might take weeks to heal and if it doesn't heal could have an outcome of staph infections and even sepsis could happen!
Due to increased chance of infection with diabetes and the bodys inability to heal properly, infection could occur easily. This is why people with diabetes must see a podiatrist regularly to check for problems. thats crap they can use it all they want but they cant cut there own toe nails
Diabetes can cause poor circulation in the feet, along with other problems such as foot ulcers, and nerve damage. That can mean that they can't feel cuts (which can become infected), or excessive heat or cold. Poor circulation also means that it's difficult for the foot to heal itself. In severe cases, diabetes can make amputation necessary.
Is this a personal foot spa? With diabetes you get what is called "peripheral neuropathy" which is when you have decreased sensation to your extremities which are feet and hands. Having said this you must be extra careful to watch for temperature of water because inability to feel hot or cold which may be why you have heard this about in relationship to food spa's. i am diabetic, and you have to use common sense.the nerves in my feet are very sensitive, so i use a thermometer for my bathtub as well as my foot spa. i use my foot spa after i have walked awhile.(2 or 3 times a week) i go to my Podiatrist every 2 months. also i do a lot of reading on Diabetes,i don't listen to other people, only my doctor, and even then i use common sense.
