Is it possible to die from strep throat?

Question:

Answers:
Yes it is possible to die from strep throat. Remember, strep throat won't kill you but untreated strep throat can lead to rheumatic fever. If not treated with antibiotics, rheumatic fever can be deadly.

Its interesting to note that people have seem to forgotten about rheumatic fever and scarlet fever which are complications of strep throat. With the advent of penicillin, we don't see these relatively common problems in the yesteryears, nowadays.

No. You will not die from strep throat by itself. The streptococcal bacteria must enter your blood stream and cause a systemic infection known as sepsis. Sepsis will kill you if you don't have proper medical attention immediately. For more info on strep check out this website.
