Do nasal sprays affect your IQ?

Question:
I am suffering from allergic rhinitis. My doctor advised me to use a nasal spray for maintenance for my allergy attack. But most of my friends say that these nasal sprays slows down the brain. We all know that these nasal sprays contain steroids. In my case, it's something I have to take for the rest of my life in order to keep these at attacks at the minimum. My hubby & son also has it and all of us are using the same spray. I'm concerned that my son might also need to take this medication for the rest of his life as well without even knowing the consequences it might bring.

Answers:
Your nasal spray does not affect the intellect. The effects it can have are more of short term nature. What I mean is it may affect your alertness but being sleepy does not mean being dumb. There might be a bit of puffiness if the use is very regular but it will not affect yours or your family's IQ. Be reassured, they are safe. It's better to be occasionnaly a bit slower to react than to be continuously congested.
