Other Answers:
Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). There are two types of herpes simplex virus (HSV). HSV-1 usually leads to lip and mouth sores (herpes labialis), while HSV-2 most often leads to genital herpes. However, both virus types can cause cold sores or genital herpes if skin comes into contact with either type.

OTC topical medications: Over-the-counter (OTC) topical products that state they are for herpes do absolutely nothing but make the skin tingle. These preparations have the effect of allowing the infection to heal in the same number of days as it would have done anyway.
A small dab of good quality Women's Perfume will dry that sucker up in about 2 days........It's gotta be good quality and perfume......not eau de toilette
Try touching it with a Styptic Pencil (available at any drug store near the shaving supplies) to dry it up, and then coat it with a layer of petroleum jelly to keep it from being exposed to further moisture (do not lick it).

It may not be herpes, so I would try increasing your vitamin B intake. That is what my doctor told me to do and they cleared up fast. Try the nature made B-complex. That is what I used.
I put toothpaste on mine, the white stuff, not the jel stuff, works for me. Leave it on till it gets hard then wipe it off with a wet warm cloth. usually the next day it is gone.
