Lymphedemia=swe. of the limbs?
Question:
Answers:
As with other answerers, Lymphedema is a swelling of the lymph nodes and can be very painful.
This is often a complication to mastectomies performed on breast cancer patients. Doctors often take a number of lymph nodes from the arm pits to check for spread of cancer, causing the condition. However, while there is some treatment, there is no cure. It can be a very debilitating condition. Patients with the condition often have a difficult time moving their arms (or may not be able to move them much at all).
If it is early-stage breast cancer, some have suggested asking the Doctor to remove a fewer number of lymph nodes to reduce the risk of developing the condition.
