Skin Peeling on Fingers?

Question: I have had a problem with the skin peeling on my fingertips over the past week. I'm not sure what could have caused this. I haven't been sick and can't recall using any unusual products on my hands. It seems like no matter how much lotion I put on my fingers they still peel like crazy. I've pretty much been having to bite off or trim the peeling skin because there is so much of it. It is much worse after I take a shower. It kind of looks like it does after a blister has been popped, but I never had any blisters on my hands when this problem occurred. Does anyone know what this could be? I have never had this problem before and it isn't going away. I'm concerned there could be a bigger issue than just having dry hands. Also, I'm not sure what other remedies there could be, other than using lotion. I'd prefer to not have to make a trip to the doctor for it, but I will if I have to. Your help is greatly appreciated. My fingers used to do that when I was younger. I went to the doctor and they gave me some kind of RX, I don't really remember what it was though. You might try making sure your hands don't get wet, like sweaty. Keep them dry, well of course when you take a bath or wash your hands they have to get wet, but keep using lotion. You might also try using a pumice stone on your tips, like the ones you use to scrape the dead skin off feet. Use that after you take a bath or wash your hands. Other than that, I'd say see a doc. Hope it gets better

Sorry, I am not a doc, but others in my family have had something similar to what you describe. The condition I have seen is called eczyma and can be controlled with a simple prescription lotion. Ask your doctor.

The only time in my life that I experienced this it turned out to be an allergic reaction to a cleaning chemical. I had used the same cleaner at my work place for literally years, but I had developed an allergy. Try switching to some natural cleaners like "simple green" or something non-toxic to see if it helps. When I was a child, the skin on my hands peeled, too. There would be a little white spot under the skin that gradually rose to the surface and peeled.

After a while, it just stopped by itself, and never came back. I've asked doctors about it, but they didn't know what could have caused it.

It is difficult to give you a very accurate diagnosis regarding your My daughters have this problem mainly in the summer. It probably is associated with increased sweating and/or contact dermatitis. The only way to know for sure is to be seen by a board certified dermatologist who can review all options with you and do the proper diagnostic tests to arrive at an appropriate diagnosis and an appropriate treatment plan.
There are other factors, ring worm - from dirty standing stagnate water.
My daughter has this occurs after a bout with athletes foot.coincidence or related?
Rule of thumb, unless there is Redness, Pain or swelling..just keep yourself comfortable.
