why does our nose start dripping when we suffer from cold??
Question:
Answers:
Here is the actual reason. The entire nasal cavity and pharynx, or throat, and upper respiratory tree produces about 1.5 liters of mucus daily. The mucus is circulated through this system by tiny tiny hairs on the top of cells called cilia. These cilia move mucus from the nasal cavity down the throat, the cilia move mucus from the trachea up so the mucus can go down the throat. This keeps the respiratory tree moist, cleans dust and debris we breath, and protects the lungs. When you get a cold the cells supporting these cilia simply die off, so you lose the only thing moving all this mucus around. The mucus collects and you get all the runny nose. After the cold is over the cilia grow back and everything is right with the world. The same thing happens when you go out into the cold and you nose runs, you are not producing more mucus, it is just that the cilia are slowed down due to the cold, the mucus collects and you get the runny nose.

Colds usually come with throat irritation. As a result the body produces more mucus to lubricate the area and reduce further irritation.
Short answer: it's your body trying to push all the bacteria or the virus out of your body. If you want to know the details I recommend a good science website. I'm a little better at explaining fevers than runny noses. The bacteria-fighting cells in your body have to leave area's like your nose and eyes (which explains your runny nose and watery eyes) and they have to go and fight off the cold-causing germs in your body. It may not seem like it, but your body works REALLY hard to keep your cold from turning into something fatal. That is also why you always feel so exhausted when you have a cold.
