starting an iv in the wrist with a butterfly?
Question:
Answers:
To positional for me. Hate them personally and they are usually the first ones to blow.
Having problems finding a vein...hot pack the arm and hand and see what pops up if not the anacubatal is there...but that is unconfortable for the patient too. My favorite place is the forearm if there is time.

ouch...
...soz dood, but that's SO gonna hurt a lot.
what about it?
It can be done, but its not going to be comfortable or allow movement of that hand. If small veins are your worry they are not really a problem as normal angiocaths are available in 24 ga with 0.75" length. Placement in the wrist is simply a bad idea since this is so positional, better sites would be the back of the hand, forearm, or even the bend of the arm is better than the wrist.
