classic sign and symptom of emphysema?
Question:
Answers:
most emphysema patients describe their breathing as "i can't catch my breath"
when a person is diagnosed with emphysema -- the lung elasticity and recoil is gone -- so the lungs are somewhat inflated -- and cannot expand any further, nor can it go back to its original position.
other symptoms are short of breath, people cannot walk far, dry cough, wheezing, etc. we call them "pink puffer" because they look pink and they lose weight too.
in order to diagnose the condition correctly, a pulmonary function test should be done. if you don't want to pay for the test, in colleges where respiratory therapy classes are conducted, they sometimes have a "respiratory care week" or something like that wherein they conduct pulmonary function tests for free -- the downside is students are going to be watching you, but they are students, they wouldn't find anything funny with that -- so don't worry about it if you want a free test
