Has anyone had a good turnout by taking peg interferon for Hep C?

Question:
I have a close friend who has Hep C and she has had now for about 6 years. Her doctor keeps telling her she doesnt need the interferon, but her regular doctor thinks she should. Her liver biopsy came back and its just eating away at her liver, so meaning it is chronic. Does anyone know or have had any symptoms related to the Peg-interferon?
She is a single mother of 3 kids and she works full time, she isn't sure if she will be able to do it on her own and still work full time and care for her kids. So should she have the treatment or refrain for now like her liver dr. says? Her reg dr. thinks she should have another oppinion which I do too, but she swears her dr. knows what he's talking about.
Thanks.

Answers:
peg interferon works about 50% of the time. if she is seeing a
hepatologist and he/she says no then i would go with that. after all, he/she is specialized in tx of hcv. maybe her actual virus load is lower than you think. doing the treatment is pretty uncomfortable --at least it was for me. if she is genotype 1 then it makes it harder to clear the hcv. however, on the other hand, my specialist told me to take treatment twice because even if peg doesnt clear the virus , it acts somewhat like a rejuvenator for your liver. in other words, my load went way down after i was treated even though i didnt clear the virus. all persons with hcv will generally have deterioration of the liver--thats the hallmark of hepc but its not a death sentence. if she is working and has hcv; she is doing very well trust me! the best to both of you!!!
