About 5 months ago i was taking 60 mg of prednisone a day for my rheumatoid arthritis, while on this....?

Question:
I gained about 10 pounds within a time period of approximately 3 months. I was then weaned off of the medicine, but in the past month have been put back on it, 40 mg a day. I am on the last few days of this cycle so hopefully it is the last time i will be taking prednisone, ever.

Has anyone had previous experiences with weight gain, if so how did you lose the extra weight and approximately how long did it take?
I look back on pictures from before the prednisone treatment and wish i could get back to having a thinner face, especially before junior prom at the end of the school year.

Answers:
It must be hard, seeing yourself a way you wish you didn't have to. But, it's very common for a steroid, like prednisone, to do this, especially causing puffiness in the face. Don't be discouraged, just try to make up for it by exercising more and eating right. If you're not on that forever, you won't look like that forever. Also, there are other treatments for RA you should try if you're not satisfied.
Prednazone almost always causes weight gain, sometimes in extreme amounts. Often after the patient has finished the drug the weight is fairly easy to lose provided you follow a decent diet and exercise regime. Ask your prescribing MD for help.
