Can one donate platelets if his blood has a hepatitis agent? He has never had hepatitis.?
Question:
Answers:
You can be infected with a virus and sometimes not get sick - or have mild flu like symptoms. If your blood is positive for a hepatitis agent like HBc then you were exposed to the Hepatitis B virus. You cannot donate platelets if that is the case. If you have ever been turned down by a blood center after donating blood then you cannot donate platelets.
There are so few people willing to donate platelets that it is very admirable that you wish to do this!
Other Answers:
Probably not. I have no hepatitis anything but I live with one who does and I cannot donate blood. I have tried several times and that is the reason for turning down my blood.
If you have the hepatitis antibody because you took the vaccine for Hepatitis, then yes you can donate blood. If you have any other antibodies, then yes you had hepatitis, and you can not donate blood.
