Anyone had a heart valve replacement?

Question:
My mitral valve was replaced in 2001 with a mechanical valve.
It saved my life. I was going into congestive heart failure at the time and now I am fine.

Answers:
Yep I had one 5 years ago at the ripe old age of 20! Mine makes a ticking noise and I'll have to take blood thinners for the rest of my life. It pretty much BLOWS except it's the reason I'm alive, so I'm cool with it. Mine is aortic.

Other Answers:
My Aunt did and she has been going for more then 15 years on it. I think hers is a pig valve. She does every thing and goes every where with it. Good Luck and Good Bless.

I had mine done 1999, at age 39! I Still have a lot of problems with my heart rate. I go in and out of a-fib all the time. I take meds for it but I still get out of wack all the time. Please see the webpage for more details on Heart Valve Surgery. The patient, who is on anti-coagulant therapy should be cautious against internal or external hemorrhage due to disease or injury and rush to the hospital in such crisis.
