How do I lower triglyceride levels?

Question: I asked you guys about how serious is an enlarged heart last month. Since then I have found out that my triglyceride level is 437 and that my hemoglobin count is 14. The highest it should be is 15. I was told I am heading for diabetes. I have lost 8 lbs in the last 2 weeks (308 to 300). What can I do to lower my levels without medication. I don't have another consult with the doctor for a week.

Your triglyceride level is high. The following persons are liable to become diabetic.
(1) Hereditory factors.(parents, brothers & sisters having diabetes.
(2) Overweight & belly stomach.
(3) Over 45 years of age.
(4) Community more suceptible for diabetes.
(5) Women who had gestational diabetes and those who had delivered a baby having a weight more than 4 Kg.
(6) High Blood Pressure.(above 140/90 mm Hg)
(7) Persons having high triglycerides level.
(8) Persons having high cholesterol in the blood.
Persons with symptoms 2, 6, 7, 8 above are liable for heart attack.

Your hemoglobin level has nothing to do with diabetes. It only tells you how effective your blood is at carrying oxygen. In general, a higher hemoglobin is better. Hemoglobin A1C - is a totally different test. Doctors use it on diabetics to tell how well they have been managing their glucose levels.

If your triglycerides & cholesterol are that high, you should already be on a prescription medication. However, you can also take niacin supplements which have been proven to lower "bad" cholesterol & raise "good" cholesterol levels. Most importantly, of course, diet & exercise!

Your hemoglobin is in a healthy range, do you mean Hemoglobin A1C? About your high triglyceride level. Vitamins like niacin has been used to lower trigylceride levels. Omega 3 fatty acids can increase your good cholesterol, HDL (high density lipoprotein.)
