Question:

Answers:
In some people, it stays dormant for the rest of their lives. In others, the virus reactivates when disease, stress, or aging weakens the immune system. Most people who get shingles will not get the disease again, although it does come back in a few people. There is no cure for shingles, but treatment may shorten the length of illness and prevent complications. Treatment may include:
Antiviral medications, sometimes in combination with corticosteroids, to reduce the pain and duration of shingles.
Pain medications, antidepressants, and topical creams to relieve long-term pain.
You may reduce the duration and pain of shingles by:
Taking good care of skin sores, such as not scratching blisters and keeping your skin clean.
Using medications as prescribed to treat shingles or postherpetic neuralgia, which is pain that lasts for at least 30 days after the shingles rash heals.
Using nonprescription pain medications, such as acetaminophen, aspirin, or ibuprofen, to help reduce pain during an attack of shingles or ongoing pain caused by postherpetic neuralgia.

Other Answers:
um what are shingles?

the doctors do know.
if acyclovir and steroids arent helping you might suggest palliative treatment to your doctor like cytotoxic therapy, where poisonous chemicals are injected in small amounts to your nerve endings in the chest area ,it is doable and the side effect is complete loss of sensation over the corresponding area. Once you have the shingles virus (varicella-zoster), you have it for life. It sets up a latent infection in the nerve roots, and re-activates during time of stress or infection.

Drugs like acyclovir, gancyclovir etc can lessen the course and severity of an outbreak if given promptly, but (as I'm sure you know) do not actually cure it.

Any 'treatments' offered are a scam. Please see the webpage for more details on Shingles (Herpes Zoster).
