That condition is not normal. I believe a pacemaker is the only thing that would keep her heart rate to normal. Since it was suggested by your doctor, I think it would be wise to consider this advise.
that's a VERY VERY low heart rate.
She should go into the doctor asap.
If she's been to a doctor before for this - then why are you asking us?
does she have any physical problems that could cause this, like weight, low blood pressure, doesn't exercise. that's too low for a heart rate, she should go to the hospital now. Do not know the age of your cousin.
Getting dizzy enough may be a cause of her brain not getting enough oxygen, the heart pumps blood that is oxygen rich through out the body, so -if low heart rate blood getting pumped slower through out the body.
You have every right to be worried about her. You do need to seek medical attention for this, and if doctor advises a pacemaker, get a second opinion.

Also, can not recall at this minute the name of medical condition, but when you are born, there is a part of your heart that has not completely close and closes soon after birth.
I know of someone that was about 19 years old and these problems sound similar to the problems he had, was found that the hole did not close at birth, and a operation to insert a ballon type device into the heart to close the hole was done. His symptoms were shortness of breath on exertion, slower than average growth physically. Was found on as a heart murrmer at a regular physical -led to a EKG and other tests to detect this.
Good luck and let us know what you find out.
The normal heart rate for an average adult is 60-100. There are normal exceptions among athletes who sometimes have heart rates in the 40's. Since she is symptomatic, her doctor may have to run tests to rule out cardiac disease such as sick sinus syndrome in which the normal pacemaker in the heart is not functioning due to congenital anomaly (an abnormality she is born with) or rheumatic heart disease. These are just examples. The dizziness indicates she is having symptoms that require medical intervention. Other symptoms include shortness of breath, low blood pressure, and chest pain. She needs a cardiologist. Take care of each other. Help is out there.Relax and take the appropriate action.Everything will work out. It's good she is seeing a doctor. Has she had her thyroid checked?
She needs to get an EKG. She's symptomatic with such a low heart rate, that's not normal. Yes, a pacemaker might be required if not now, in the near future. However, the doctor needs to first determine the type of heart rhythm. Is she taking medications known as beta-blockers? That can lower heart rate and she should stop immediately and consult a physician.
Some people can perfuse with a heart rate of 40 (athletes), but if your cousin is getting dizzy and sick, then obviously she isn't. There are all kinds of meds that can help, but if doc thinks a pacemaker is nescessary, thats probably what I would go with.
