My Loving Dad has alziemers, just been diognised, and I find myself in denial that it cannot happen to my dad.

I am sorry to hear of your father's illness. There are support groups out there. http://www.alz.org The Alzheimer's Association is available online. Also if you or your family members are involved in care-giving for him there are some wonderful groups for that as well.
I am not sure where you are;located, but check with your local senior center and senior advocates, the are a valuable source of help for people and families with this and other dementia troubles.
Just remember that he is still your dad and that you have to be very patient with him. Such an awful thing to happen to both your father and you the best way forward in support is through the cares hot line. Call 118 118 ask for the main carers number . They can help in other ways, they will send and info pack with help for your father and for you. Nhs has a cares group, join them you wont feel so alone and the support through your fathers illness is invaluable.Nothing helps more than talking in person to others who really know what it is your going through, and with help you will know how to help yourself and your father.
